Concerns about land use are increasingly evident, whether due to the environmental impacts they cause or the disorderly growth resulting from urban sprawl. In this sense, this research aimed to detect and evaluate changes in the urban spot in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, using data and remote sensing techniques, through the supervised classification of two TM / Landsat 5 sensor images from 1993 and 2007. The method Used for the georeferencing of the TM image is the first-degree polynomial and resampling of the pixels by the closest neighbor method, obtaining the corrected image according to the UTM (Transverse Universal Mercartor), Zone 22S, Datum WSG84 cartographic projection. For the mapping of the classes of use and coverage of the soil and to define the units that compose the landscape the visual interpretation of form, texture and hue / color was used. The indicator used to evaluate the accuracy of the classification process was the Kappa coefficient, which framed the results as excellent. With the research it was observed that in 1993 the urban spot occupied a space of 25.38%, while in 2007 this value increased to 33.98%. In this way an 8.6% increase in the perimeter of the urban space was configured. The use of orbital products of remote sensing proved to be efficient in the analysis of the urban growth, proven by the results obtained by means of the comparison of the images after being classified, since it is visible the increase of the urban spot of the region.
